Taxi Driver Breaks LASTMA Official’s Leg In Lagos (See Photos)

A taxi driver, Sunday Agbariko, yesterday broke the leg of an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olayemi Isiaka with his vehicle.

He ran over Isiaka’s leg while trying to escape arrest.

Agbariko, who is also said to be a security personnel with Mama Prayer Mountain International, at the LASTMA Ojota Yard, hit Isiaka with his Nissan Primera car marked FKJ 762 QX.

Isiaka was said to be standing at the entrance when the incident occurred.

Agbariko was earlier arrested by another LASTMA official for reckless and dangerous driving and also for violating the state traffic law.

The taxi driver, who pretended to be complying by following the traffic officer to the yard, demanded for his car key on the pretext of removing vital documents. He ignited the engine, tyring to drive out of the yard dangerously and hit the victim.

According to LASTMA Public Relations Officer Mahmud Hassan, Agbariko has been handed over to the Area F Police Command for further investigation.

The victim is said to be receiving treatment at the Emergency Ward of Igbobi Orthopedic Hospital, Yaba.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr Bashir Braimah, condemned the action of some drivers, who he said, are in the habit of violating traffic laws and disrespecting traffic lights and officers on duty.

He warned that LASTMA will not be intimidated by anybody nor shy away from performing the task of maintaining law and order on Lagos roads

Nigerian Soldiers Allegedly Pluck Out Road Safety Official's Eye (See Photos)

official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Segun Enikuemehin, who dared to ask some military men who were assaulting a civilian to desist from such a dastardly act is currently at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) with one of his eyes totally damaged.

According to Sahara Reporters, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Mr. Enikuemehin came upon the military men beating a harmless civilian.
Convinced that the military officials would beat the man to death if nothing was done, he reportedly walked up the angry soldiers and pleaded that they let the man go or hand him over to the police if he had done something illegal.

The military men would not take such effrontery lightly as they descended on the Good Samaritan and started beating him as well.

But not even the beating from the soldiers would discourage him, and he managed amidst his own beating to rescue the already battered man, whom he then took to the Adekunle Police station at Ebute Metta.

Thereafter, Mr. Enikuemehin led the police back to the venue of the incident. Upon sighting him in the company of the policemen, the soldiers, who were by that time already cooling off at a nearby beer parlor, became even enraged and descended on Mr. Enikuemehin, during which they eye was plucked out.

The damaged eye was reportedly picked from the ground and the man rushed down to the General Hospital.  Rejected upon arrival by that hospital, the blinded man reportedly asked that he be taken to LUTH.

Meanwhile, the soldiers, upon realizing what they had done, were said to have taken to their heels but were overtaken by residents and handed over to the police.

The story got messier when a relative of the stabbed Federal Road Safety Officer went back to the police station only to find that the military men had already been released by the police. While still digesting that development, one of the accused soldiers walked into the station in the company of a senior officer who was identified as Captain Okoli.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, Mr. Enikuemehin’s Uncle, Prince Ojatunwse Oluwajoba, said the DPO of Adekunle Police Station informed him when he got there that the soldier who stabbed his nephew had been handed over to the military authorities. He said that soldier, who had been in civilian clothes when the incident happened, arrived at the police station with Captain Okoli to collect his identity card and other personal effects that had been taken from him at the station.

According to Mr. Oluwajobaa, doctors at LUTH are now saying his nephew’s left eye has been completely damaged and that the second eye might be affected as well if proper medical care is not given.

An Evangelist Was Arrested For Drug Trafficking

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are interrogating a South Africa based evangelist over 165kgs of narcotics drugs seized at Apapa Seaport, Lagos. The 92kgs of methamphetamine and 73kgs of ephedrine were detected inside two containers of foodstuff meant for export to South Africa. The arrest and seizure is a product on intense undercover operation by the NDLEA. The estimated street value of the drugs is 1.4 billion naira.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) said that the seizure has significant influence on the campaign against narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

In his words, "this is a product of careful planning and meticulous tracking of narcotic drugs movement. The consignments were closely monitored by our undercover agents and intercepted at Apapa Seaport, Lagos following the detection of narcotics by NDLEA sniffer dogs during screening operation. This will definitely have a positive influence on Nigeria's drug control efforts".'

The NDLEA boss added that the Agency will remain meticulous in detecting drugs and prosecuting offenders. "I am very happy with the success recorded in this operation. The Agency will remain painstaking and professional in the fight against illicit drug production, trafficking and abuse. We hope to unmask the drug syndicate behind this shipment and make more arrests soon," Abdallah promised.

The drugs were hidden inside packs of melon concealed in foodstuff and cosmetics such as Gari (cassava flakes), noodles, Knorr and Maggi food seasoning, yam powder, Malt drinks, pepper, Milk, Herbal Hair Cream and Golden Morn cereals. Other items in the container are Damatol Hair Cream, bags of Melon, Kegs of palm oil, Beans, Biscuits, Sardine and Cartons of Orijin bitters.

During examination of the containers marked MSKU 388274-1 and MSKU 424717-0; anti-narcotic officials detected 20kg of Methamphetamine and 50kg of Ephedrine inside the first container and 72Kg of Methamphetamine and 23Kg of Ephedrine in the second container. The total weight of the drugs is 165kgs.

Officers successfully traced the illicit consignment to a fifty-two year old man who claimed to be an evangelist by name John Vincent Arinze who was arrested in his hotel room in Lagos. A Mercedes Benz Jeep belonging to him was also impounded at the time of arrest. The suspect hails from Ara village, Nise in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. John who had lived in South Africa for over a decade accepted ownership of the illicit shipment.

The suspect in his statement said that he made a big mistake by taking over the business of his late wife. "I am an evangelist living in Durban South Africa. My late wife was into drug trafficking before she died a few years ago. I made a mistake venturing into her business. It is all my fault," he stated.
He will soon be charged to court.
