President Buhari Leaves New York For London

President, Muhammadu Buhari has left New York for the United Kingdom.

Buhari left New York on Thursday where he attended the 72nd United Nations General Assembly meeting.

The President on Tuesday addressed the gathering of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

He pledged Nigeria’s solidarity to the United Nations and solicited the support of the international community in tackling global challenges.

In his address, the President called on the international community came together to focus on the need for gender equality, youth empowerment, social inclusion, and the promotion of education, creativity, and innovation. The frontiers of good governance, democracy including holding free and fair elections, and enthronement of the rule of law are expanding everywhere, especially in Africa.

“Our faith in democracy remains firm and unshaken. Our regional organisation ECOWAS came together to uphold democratic principles in The Gambia – as we had done previously in Cote D’Ivoire.

“Through our individual national efforts, state institutions are being strengthened to promote accountability, and to combat corruption and asset recovery. These can only be achieved through the international community cooperating and providing critical assistance and material support. We shall also cooperate in addressing the growing transnational crimes such as forced labour, modern-day slavery, human trafficking, and cybercrime”.

The President was one of the African Leaders that had lunch with US President, Donald Trump and also held meetings with the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Gueterres and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

ASUU Announces ‘Conditional Suspension’ Of Strike (See)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a conditional suspension of it nationwide industrial action.

ASUU’s decision followed a reconciliation meeting with a Federal Government team which held today (Monday) in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The talks with the Federal Government team came after about two weeks following the union’s consultations with its various chapters on the terms of agreement earlier reached by both parties.

India police look for guardians of young lady 'living with monkeys

The state of the young lady, who purportedly battles to convey, is said to move forward

Police in northern India are looking arrangements of missing youngsters to attempt to distinguish a young lady accepted to have been living with monkeys.

Local District Magistrate Ajaydeep Singh has also visited the girl in hospital and has named her "Forest Durga", a reference to a Hindu warrior goddess.

Many in India are comparing the little girl to Mowgli, the character from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book who was raised by wolves. It is not clear, however, how long the little girl has been living in the forest.

Al-Shabab Terrorists Recapture Town After US Army Retreat

Somali aggressors on Monday recovered Elbur town in focal Somalia after Somali Government and the African Union peacekeeping (AMISOM), powers hauled out.

Elbur District Commissioner Nur Hassan Gutale said that the joint powers pulled back from the town on Monday morning, permitting the intensely equipped Al-Shabaab contenders to return.

"Ethiopian troops under AMISOM and Somali National Army (SNA) pulled back from their bases in Elbur town, a vital town in Galgudud locale today.

"The withdrawal was made by AMISOM to start with, and after that administration constrains as they couldn't remain there alone in light of the fact that they were not readied", Gutale said.

He blamed AMISOM troops for not educating them of the pullout from the town which permitted the agitators to enter with no resistance.

"They didn't advise us that they are leaving and this is a sudden choice. Al-Shabaab aggressors recovered the town and our powers are in a range west of the town", the administration official said.

Gutale included that Galmudug State Administration would make a move against the aggressors in the coming week.

"The adversary amass (Al-Shabaab) will target regular folks, in this way, we are attempting to flush them out of the town and free the town'', he included.

Nearby inhabitants said the aggressors who have pursued close day by day assaults against government and AU bases in Somalia lifted their dark flag on the top structures to alarm local people about their arrival to the town.

The inhabitants said the partnered strengths supported by tanks and reinforced vehicles were seen making a beeline for Dhusamareb, the local capital of Galgaduud district.

The united powers have been in Elbur town since 2014 after a few inhabitants had fled the town because of dread perpetrated by the guerillas.

Wife Killed Her Husband And Hide His Body In A Suitcase.

A heartless wife has left many people in serious shock after it was discovered that she killed her husband and hid his body in a suitcase.

According to Indian Times, Seerat Dhillon, the prime accused in Ekam Singh’s murder case, on Monday confessed to the police that she shot her husband dead.

In her preliminary interrogation after her arrest on Sunday evening, Seerat had told the police that she fired at him in a fit of rage late at Saturday night. At that time, her brother Vinay Pratap and his friend Jagat Singh, too, were present there.

A local court on Monday sent her to police custody for two days for further interrogation.

The police on Monday added Jagat Singh’s name in the FIR as a conspirator. He hails from Bathinda. Both Vinay Pratap and Jagat Singh are at large. Seerat’s mother Jaswinder Kaur, also an accused in the FIR, too, is absconding.

“She had narrated us the circumstances in which Ekam was murdered. She told us that Ekam and Vinay did not get along well. On Saturday night, Vinay and Jagat had come to see her at her home. Ekam reached late and started arguing with them. A scuffle broke out between Ekam and Seerat. She alleged that Ekam pulled his mauser from the almirah and pointed toward her and threatened to kill her and Vinay,” said SP (city) Parminder Singh Bhandal.

“She added that Ekam used to doubt her character, which was one of the reasons for frequent quarrels between them. Ekam had barred Vinay’s entry into his house. So, Ekam got infuriated on seeing Vinay there. She told us that she snatched the mauser from Ekam’s hands and pulled the trigger.”

SP Bhandal added “that all three, Vinay Pratap, Seerat and Jagat Singh, then washed the blood and packed Ekam’s body in the suitcase. But Seerat could not spot the BMW car’s keys and, therefore, they postponed their plan to dispose of Ekam’s body till morning. When Seerat’s landlord went out of home for his morning walk, she dragged the suitcase downstairs alone. This was the time when the autorickshaw driver spotted her and while helping her put the suitcase in the car got bloodstains on his hands. Later, he informed the police.

“Ekam’s 11-year-old son Gurniwas also told us that a quarrel broke out between Ekam, Seerat and Vinay. Gurniwas added that he went to another room with his sister Humaira. It was then that they heard a cracker-like sound, but they both got terrified and did not come out of the room. Then they fell asleep,” Bhandal told Chandigarh Newsline.

On Monday, Seerat was produced in the court. When Chief Judicial Magistrate Parul asked Seerat why she did it, Seerat said that she killed Ekam because he used to harass her for money. When the CJM asked Seerat to name all those who were involved with her in the crime, Seerat named her brother Vinay Pratap and his friend Jagat Singh.

Seerat also told the court that the mauser with which Ekam was shot dead belonged to him and it was an unlicensed weapon.

The investigating officer of the case apprised the court that the other accused in the case, Vinay Pratap and Jagat Singh, were absconding and they needed Seerat’s custody to trace them. The IO told the court that they had sent teams to various places in Punjab and neighbouring states to nab the accused. He added that teams were also sent to Abul Khurana, the native village of Seerat’s family in Malout tehsil of Muktsar district in Punjab.

The court directed the IO to conduct a fair investigation into the case and submit the investigation report on the next date of hearing. The autopsy report of Ekam’s body revealed that the bullet had pierced his head that led to his death.

A 32-year-old kidnap suspect on Thursday, narrated to journalists how they kidnapped a middle-aged woman and raped her repeatedly without condom after collecting ransom from her family.

Desmond Ozo and three other members of his gang, namely, Innocent Lucky (27), Roland Ode (22) and Friday Dominion (26) who specialize in kidnapping women and raping them were arrested by the operatives of Edo State Police Command on New Year Day.

The kidnappers were among the 85 suspects arrested by the command and paraded by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, for various crimes in the state, ranging from armed robbery, murder, cultism, stealing and impersonation.

Ozo said they raped the middle-aged woman in question after collecting N2 million ransom from her relations

"We slept with her several times before we released her. We also collected N2 million ransom," he said

When asked if he used condom while raping their victim, Ozo said,

 "I did not use condom when sleeping with her."

Narrating how they were arrested, one of the gang members, Innocent Lucky, said the four of them were driving in their car along Sapele Road, when policemen on patrol stopped and arrested them.

Kenya government says its 6 months in jail or Sh100k fine if anyone fails to register mobile SIM card

As Kenyan government bids to tighten security in the country, mobile users will have to register their SIM cards in other to avoid six months in jail or a fine of Sh100,000.

In a statement published in the Dailies, the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) stated that buying of SIM cards from hawkers, as well as using a SIM card that is not registered contravenes section 27c of the Kenya Communications Act, 1998.

'When buying a SIM card, demand that the vendor registers your particulars; provide a copy of your ID and ensure correct particulars are registered; report any change of your particulars as soon as possible to your provider for an update.'

‘If you lose your SIM card, report to the nearest police station as soon as possible and obtain an abstract; do not allow a stranger to use your SIM card. If a stranger is in distress and requires assistance, make the call yourself, Defaulters will either be convicted to six months in prison or a fine of Sh100, 000 or both.

According to Nairobi News, the new rules were put in place by a task force team that President Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated, after the Westgate shopping mall terrorist attack in 2013.

36 states take N143.6bn from federation account in September – Report

Abuja – The 36 states got N143.6 billion from the federation account in September as their share of distributable revenue generated for the month.

The breakdown shows in a report from a source at the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja on Sunday.

The funds are usually shared the following month; for example, revenue generated in January is shared in February; thus, the revenue shared was actually generated in August and shared in September 2016.

The key agencies that remit funds into the federation account are the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigerian Custom Service.

At the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in September, federal, states and local governments shared N516 billion as against the N530 billion that was shared in August.

The report showed that the amount distributed included the Gross Statutory revenue, Value Added Tax, exchange gain, N35 billion excess Petroleum Profit Tax and 13 per cent derivation to oil producing states.

The oil producing states are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers.

The report showed that before distribution, state liabilities were deducted.

The liabilities include an external debt of N2.9 billion, contractual obligations of N10.48 billion and other
deductions amounting to N16.9 billion.

The report showed that other deductions coverred National Water Rehabilitation Projects, National Agricultural Technology Support, Payment for Fertilizer, State Water Supply Project, State Agriculture Project and National Fadama Project.

To sum it up, here is what the 36 states got after all deductions were made.

Abia N3.01 billlion, Adamawa N3.14 billion, Cross River N2.04 billion, Ekiti N2.16 billion, Edo N2.54 billion, Kaduna State N4.23 billion, Kano State N5.2 billion, Lagos state N7.92 billion, Rivers N9.05 billion, and Zamfara, N2.58 billion.

Delta N7.39 billion, Anambra N3.43 billion, Benue N3.37 billion, Borno N3.9 billion, Ebonyi N2.99 billion, Enugu State N3.34 billion, Gombe State N2.61 billion, Nassarawa State N2.92 billion, Imo N2.97 billion and Kogi N3.39 billion.

Yobe got N3.29 billion, Taraba N2.89 billion, Sokoto state N3.62 billion, Plateau N2.31 billion, Oyo State N3.53 billion, Osun N868.9 million, OndoState N4.18 billion, Ogun N2.16 billion, Niger N3.49 billion and Kebbi N3.36 billion.

Also, Katsina state got N4 billion, Bayelsa N7.6 billion, Bauchi State N3.52 billion, Jigawa N3.82 billion, Kebbi N3.36 billion and Kwara N2.77 billion.

The report also showed that the Federal Capital Territory got N4.7 billion from the Federal Government’s share of the distributable revenue in September.

The FAAC committee is made up of commissioners of finance and Accountants-General from the 36 states of the federation; the Accountant General of the Federation, and representatives from the NNPC.

Others are representatives from the Federal Inland Revenue Service; the Nigerian Custom Service; Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The federation account is currently being managed on a legal framework that allows funds to be shared to the three tiers of government under three major components.

These components are the statutory allocation, Value Added Tax distribution and allocation made under the derivation principle

Police cuff and arrest 102 year old woman...find out why.

Edie Simms is a 102-year-old woman with an unusual item on her to-do list. And, thanks to some officers in St. Louis, she was able to cross that off, CNN reports. Simms wanted to be arrested -- handcuffed, and placed in the back of a police cruiser.

"She was so excited that she can ride in a police car and she said, 'Do you think you could put those handcuffs on me?'" Michael Howard of the Five Star Senior Center told CNN affiliate KPLR.

"A St. Louis County car pulled up next to the police and Edie holds up her hands with the handcuffs on. She's just a riot."

Edie has produced over 400 handmade items -- scarves, eye glass cases, pot holders -- for the seniors at the center. Last Friday, she made her usual delivery, but this time she was ferried to the center in the back of a St. Louis PD car.

"We're more than happy to do these type of things," said Sgt. John McLaughlin. "We love it and we get more out of it than the seniors do." Simms couldn't be happier. "It`s a great world if you just open your eyes and look at it," she said.

The number of people known to have been killed by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti is increasing by the day as coastal villages and towns began making contact with the outside world two days after being hit by the most dangerous Caribbean storm in nearly a decade.

By the end of Thursday the authorities in Haiti had put the figure at 339. Bodies started to appear late on Thursday as water receded in some places after the hurricane smashed concrete walls, flattened palm trees and tore roofs off homes, forcing thousands of Haitians to flee.

The Category 4 hurricane carried winds reaching 140 mph/220 kph flattened whole neighbourhoods. In the main city of Jeremie some 80 percent of buildings have been destroyed. Most of the casualties came in towns and fishing villages in Haiti’s southwest, with many killed by falling debris and swollen rivers

"All the money we had has been lost. Everything is lost. We’re lost, we don’t know (what to do). We could see the destruction and we asked for help. But no," said Julio Desire, a resident of La Savane, as he surveyed his destroyed house. hose killed included a woman and her 6-year-old daughter who frantically abandoned their flimsy home and headed to a nearby church to seek shelter, says Ernst Ais, mayor of the town of Cavaillon. 

"On the way to the church, the wind took them," Ais told The Associated Press. At least 12 people died in his town, and death toll expected to increase.

The hurricane blasted the Bahamas on Thursday with winds of 220 kilometres an hour as it headed towards Florida, threatening the first direct hit on the United States in more than 10 years.

The US National Weather Service said the storm could be the most powerful to strike the northeast of the state in well over 100 years – although it is predicted to lose strength over the next two days. As Matthew approached and winds got stronger, more than two million people were urged to leave the coastal area.

Florida’s governor warned people that if they ventured onto the beaches, the storm would kill them. Daytona Beach was put under curfew from late on Thursday local time.

Airlines cancelled nearly 3,000 flights over two days, many of them in or out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. People have been stocking up on food. Petrol stations announced they were out of supplies after cars waited in long queues to fill up.

An extremely rare event, Disney closed its Florida theme parks, at least until Friday.

The hurricane warning also extended up the coast through Georgia – where President Obama authorised the release of emergency federal aid – and into South Carolina.

Hundreds of unemployed Nigerian youths today fell for a fake recruitment advert sent out via Whatsapp. A fake message was drafted and sent out by a prankster, claiming that people who have a B.sc and are interested in a 80k salary paying job at a call center in Guaranty Trust Bank plc, should come for an interview by 9am in VI, Lagos. People thought it was true and hundreds of youths, even from outside Lagos, came formally dressed but were shocked to find out it was a hoax. I didn't wanna embarrass Hillary Clinton, i was holding back at debate'- Donald Trump says

Donald Trump has suggested that he did so well at Monday Night's U.S Presidential election debate claiming he held back because he didn't want to embarrass his rival Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to a fired-up crowd in Melbourne on Tuesday, Trump said that he has the momentum for victory after what he said was a strong win in Monday's debate against Democrat Hillary Clinton.

'Clinton is as crooked as they come," Trump said, 'Everything she did turned out bad."

"I was holding back. I didn't want to embarrass her."

"She is the candidate of yesterday, and ours is the campaign and the people of the future," Trump said. "She's an insider, fighting only for her donors and insiders. I'm an outsider fighting for you."

During his speech at the AeroMod International hangar at Orlando Melbourne International Airport, Trump said Clinton was "incompetent as secretary of State."

"Crooked Hillary is going to be worse than Obama, and we can't let it happen," Trump said.

 

Trump also promised that he would "build the wall" to prevent illegal immigration into the United States from Mexico, and that Mexico would pay for it.

Hearing those remarks, the crowd estimated to be about 8500 chanted: "Build the wall."

U.S and South Korea Navy missile destroyers move around Korean border as a warning to North Korea (PHOTOS)

The Navies of the US and South Korean put on a Military show in the Sea of Japan on Monday morning, as a display of military might in response to North Korea's dictator Kim Jong-Un's testing of nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles earlier this month.

The military exercises saw the US missile destroyer ship USS Spruance align with ships, submarines and planes from the South Korean navy in the Japan sea, east of the Korean Peninsula making it the first time U.S. and South Korean vessels have operated together in waters so close to North Korea.

"We work side-by-side with our ROK partners every day; we are by their side today at sea, and we will remain by their side to defend against North Korea's unprovoked acts of aggression," Rear Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea and Task Force 78, said in a statement to CNN. 

"Our ROK-US alliance will counter the North Korean nuclear development and SLBM threats with determination," Vice Adm. Lee Ki-sik, commander of the Republic of Korea Fleet, said in a statement

American motivational speaker, anti-bullying activist and author, Lizzie Velasquez was dubbed the 'World's Ugliest Woman" in a video posted on YouTube when she was 17. She has a rare congenital disease which among other symptoms, prevents her from accumulating body fat. The condition resulted in bullying during her childhood and early youth.

The 27-year-old from Austin, Texas, who has spoken out against bullying, was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome by the Baylor College of Medicine. She has zero percent body fat and is medically unable to gain weight. Additionally, she is blind in in her right eye and vision-impaired in her left eye. Doctors told her parents, at birth that she would never speak or walk. The doctors were wrong. In fact, at 27, she does both professionally. HuffPost described her as a "seasoned motivational speaker and a "self-professed pacer" while she speaks on stage"

"There were many times where I was so frustrated and angry. I didn’t know who to blame or who to get angry at. I made every birthday wish, I lit every candle at church and did every prayer before bed. I said ‘God, please take this all away from me. Please make me normal,"  Velasquez told the crowd during one of her speaking engagements last year.

Velasquez has written two books, 'Be Beautiful, Be You and 'Choosing Happiness' directed towards teenagers, which share personal stories from her life and offer advice and talks about obstacles she has faced in her life and how she's learned the importance of choosing to be happy when it's all too easy to give up.

Growing up in Texas, Velasquez was teased, gawked at or sometimes downright ignored. She remembers her first day of kindergarten and noticing for the first time in her life that other kids were scared of her. She went home and asked her parents what was wrong with her.

"I credit my parents’ answer with why I’m able to do what I do today," she said to HuffPost. When I asked them what was wrong with me they said there’s nothing wrong with you. The only difference is that you’re smaller than the other kids. They told me we are going to love you and support you and help you reach every dream you have," she added.

Her parents treated her like everyone else. But the world did not. Velasquez remembers going to amusement parks and feeling like an attraction. Groups of adults would stop mid-conversation and stare at her. She refused to go to water parks because she couldn’t stand to be in a bathing suit in public.

A documentary film based on her life which is entitled A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story, premiered at SXSW last year and is set to premiere on Lifetime on October 17th, 2016. The optimistic young woman took to Instagram five days ago to write about the birth of the documentary.

"I still remember the day we hung up giant post it notes on a wall and brainstormed what would be needed to bring @abraveheartfilm life. I remember our cheers of happiness as each of you gave so generously of your time and money to help our team. I remember the day we realized this project was so much larger than us.
